Just Do It - The Movie

Interesting stuff:

Just Do It is an exciting new feature documentary film that follows the mischievous and risky world of UK climate activists.

In early 2009, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Emily James began filming the clandestine activities of several groups of environmental civil disobedient activists in the UK. Allowed unprecedented access, her footage shows us the people behind the politics, providing the often overlooked human element to their story as we watch them take on the combined forces of global capitalism, run-away climate change and those pesky metropolitan police!

Their adventures will entertain, illuminate and inspire, whilst inciting you to get off your arse and change the world.

Currently in post-production and set for release in early 2011, Just Do It is a film pushing boundaries. It is an experiment in crowd-funding, group production and community-engaged documentary filmmaking. Read on to find out more…

A 'Secret' Eco-Village

The only reason I've posted this is because part of me wants to live here (and have a beard).

For five happy years they enjoyed simple lives in their straw and mud huts.

Generating their own power and growing their own food, they strived for self-sufficiency and thrived in homes that looked more suited to the hobbits from The Lord of the Rings.

Then a survey plane chanced upon the 'lost tribe'... and they were plunged into a decade-long battle with officialdom.

Read all about it.

The Spy Who Was "Plane Stupid"

My good friend, Graham and the aviation protest group 'Plane Stupid', have been in the news again since uncovering a mole in their midst.

The Mole, apparently, made a number of basic errors including:

  • Wearing expensive designer clothes (which he attempted to disguise by wearing a Palestinian scarf to give some environmental credibility)
  • Turning up to meetings consistently early
  • Demonstrating an unusual eagerness to reap mayhem on British airport infrastructure by suggesting the grandest and most aggressive schemes
  • Allowing information on planned activities to be published almost immediately in the press
You can read more at Ecoworldly, and Graham also has an article in The Guardian.

My Friend Graham

So it's been a while since I posted anything here, not surprisingly given how busy I am, but I can't resist this one.

You may have heard that
BAA has recently won a High Court ruling banning certain protesters from Heathrow during a week-long climate change camp. Well my friend Graham is one of the undesirables:
When two students decided something had to be done about climate change, they levelled their sights on flights. Now, with 150 fully committed activists behind them, Plane Stupid is giving the aviation industry a bumpy ride - The Observer
Graham is the press spokesman and they've actually been in the news a surprising amount recently - as I discovered when I did a Google Search.
